Secret Of Happiness In Adverse Times

Have you been stuck in the traffic?What was your reaction? What is your reaction when your maid didn't turn up or your manager gives you more work? What happens when you miss a flight or train? What do you do when milk is not delivered to you on time? How you react when you go to a restaurant for eating something specific and  it is unavailable at that time?

Most of us will react in same manner.You must be cursing traffic rules, over-population, lack of  roads, random auto drivers, cab drivers, giant buses and almost everyone around you.In above all situations you will get irritated and stressed. I have pointed out very few examples. In the day- to - day life you must have faced such situation many times. If you start listing them you can write a giant book. Such problems in life will never end. But, if you want to write the answer to these problems; one sentence is enough!

Its true! Yes, the secret to remain calm and happy in every situation is very short and simple. CHANGE YOUR THOUGHT PROCESS. Its very simple. Most of the time you can't control the situation. Only your mind is in your control. It is your choice to make your day or waste your day.
You can be calm and composed in adverse situation or you can get irritated, frustrated, annoyed and stressed. But controlling your thoughts driven through your emotions can control your state of mind. You can be at peace while others struggling with feelings of frustration and anger in the same scenario.

Lets take a simple example, last week I was stuck in the traffic for three hours due to heavy rains in Bengaluru. My brother was also there. The driver and my brother even I were panicked and frustrated. But, to my surprise my 4 year old daughter was enjoying at her best. I asked her about her happiness then she told "mumma its too cold and rainy outside; but we are safe in the car". That simple sentence changed my thought process. Before, I was regretting for traveling. But after listening to her I thought what if we were on the bike?

Suddenly, a wave of serenity came to mind and I felt myself lucky to have a seat in the car. The frustration gone in vain and I also started enjoying the songs which I wanted to listen since ages but didn't have time for that in my busy schedule. Altering the way of thinking can create a huge difference on our mood. It will definitely help you a lot in long term.

It is easy to be happy in pleasant situation and it is easy to be happy in unpleasant situation too. You just need to rethink. As soon as your thinking goes in negative direction stop it, and redirect it in a positive way.So, we can conclude the secret of happiness as -

  • Take control of your mind.
  • Change your way of thinking.
  • Pause when your thoughts are becoming negative.
  • Think about more adverse scenarios that could happen.
  • Be positive towards what you have.
  • Feel yourself lucky that you are on the better part.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          It is not a one day thing but regular practice can train your brain to work on a positive note.
